USB to RS-232

Ok, since some computer manufactuers are leaving out the serial ports on laptops I need an adapter for USB or PCMICA to a RS-232 serial port, I have found several devices and they seem pretty costly ($90 – $250) does anyone know of place I can get one at a lower cost, the device will need to be able to assign it to COM1 or COM2
