User Subdirectories

Is there a way of listing Users by the number of subdirectories in their home directory?

The reason that I am asking is that our server abended recently; when we restarted – we could not mount the volume and received the following error message:”Directory tree too deep”

Referring back to a novell TID (ref:10015121) we corrected the problem by increasing the Tree Depth from 25 to 45.
Is there a recommended tree depth?
Is it possible to trace users with a subdirectory level > 25 or any number we specify.
