Using the Sum function in Access 97

I created an application in MS ACCESS97 to keep track of student training hours. I need the program to give me the total of hours for all the different courses the students take. The problem I have is that when I run a QRY for the total number of hours, ACCESS97 put them in groups, and don’t give me a grand total of all the hours.
