view source windows2000 and IE5.5

I have a problem with the view source function with win2000 using IE5.5,it is verry unstable,only working every now and then,i get no errors of anykind and notepad is in the default location and is working fine,i have also checked the tmp folder in enviroment variables and thats fine too,does anyone know how i can get this functioning again??????????
