Viewing a files properties in Windows 7 File Explorer

In Win XP it was possible to view a files properties in Windows File Explorer by right clicking and selecting properties such as Title, Author, Subject. These columns could be sorted in ascending or descending order also. Furthermore you could edit these properties from File Explorer. In Windows 7 these properties are ONLY visible and available for .doc or .xls files. Other files like PDF’s the properties are no longer displayed nor can they be edited from File Explorer.

Does anyone know another file exploring program that can be used as a replacement, or do they know a workaround so that the file properties can be visible for all document types.

There are a number of discussion boards on the net where this topic is also addressed, but I have found no solution.

One suggested workaround was to run XP mode and use File Explorer in XP mode to view your documents properties, but I would hope there is a more elegant option available. Another was to use indexed metadata; however pulling off the index does not work with files on a server on the LAN.
