VIRTUAL CRIMES

by fluxit . Updated 22 years, 5 months ago

With the advent of information technologies has come an increasing number of crimes that reach right into your life. Some of these crimes are just vamped up crimes that have been around forever. For example sex crimes of various forms, identity theft, and scams of various types. There are of course newer crimes as well such as hacking and denial of service but that may only be the tip of the iceberg.

The point being that we have only touched the surface on these emerging technologies, thier vulnerabilities and applications. As more and more technological solutions pour into the marketplace in the decades to come not only will we have more vulnerabilities to contend with but also there will be a blurring of reality. Will you being talking to a person or machine? If a machine where will it be located? Could this be the revival of ‘Max Headroom’ but only look like a real person on the video phone? Could friends and family be impostered then lure unsuspecting victims into cons? Who knows what is possible.

Should homeland defense be involved in new product development to help ensure the integrity of emerging technologies? For example, be a participating member of the IEEE and RFC boards.
