Virtual PC 2007 Troubles

by raustin . Updated 18 years, 8 months ago

I am running Windows Vista Business with an nVidia graphics card and 2 monitors. Up until today I had things exactly perfect. Monitor one was my main monitor, and on monitor 2 I had virtual PC running XP SP2 full screen. All was well.

This morning, I finally decided to do about 18 windows updates that had been there for a few days. At the same time I added a Logitech Cordless MX Duo keyboard and mouse. After these things were done, here is my problem:

The Virtual PC will not run on either monitor. when I start the virtual XP, it just sits there at a black screen and never comes up. Here’s the strange part. If I minimize the window, it loads while minimized. I hear it log in. I see the little preview picture in the console. When I bring the window back up, it’s all black and frozen again until I minimize it.

Now here’s the even weirder thing. If I run the window in a window and move it so it’s part on 1 monitor and part on the other, it works. As soon as I move the window onto just 1 of the monitors, it freezes. Very bizarre. I’ve gone through a bunch of nVidia drivers thinking it was a driver issue. I did a system restore back to before the updates. I uninstalled and reinstalled Virtual PC. It still doesn’t work. I don’t think it’s my XP install because it doesn’t even get through the virtual bios tests unless the window is spanned or minimized.

Anyone have a clue? This has driven me nuts all day and I’m not sure what to try next.
