Virtualisation

Can anyone suggest what they consider the best solution for virtual desktops.
I am basically starting with a blank canvas we could be going down the Ms, WMware or Sun system for our server platform.
However, we would like to incorporate virtual desktops. Where the user basically logs into the desktop as a dumb terminal.

Can anyone recommend a solution
