Virus Detection

by blitzsonik . Updated 17 years ago

Greetings fellow techies…

Been a while since I posted…I would offer point but it seems that TR has done a awya with that . Hmm, guess I need to come back more often!

I feel really strange with this particula request having spent the better part of 7 years defending my network against this very thing but…

I need to know where I can find a downloadable collection of REAL known Viruses, Trojans, Worms, and the like.

You see, I am testing multiple Web Security Gateways to see which ones actually work the best! Problem lies in the testing the actual detection functionaility. I know about the EICAR test file and they all pick that up but I need to know about the “In the Wild” stuff out there.

I have found a couple sites that point out some good spyware but nothing that will alow me to actually downlaod one to see if my gateway picks it up!

I am not concerned about destroying my machine or Outbreaks because I am running the tests in a completely sandboxed environemnt. There is 1 Windows PC connected to the test gateway connected straight to the internet. If one of the bad boys does make it through…I just re-build the PC.

So, if anybody out there knows where I can pick up a few nasties, please let me know. If you know but don’t feel comfortable posting a link for all the world to see (i.e. kids, newbies, etc.) then please email me at:

Thanks in advance!
