Vista – Issue making programs connect to the internet.

by spartan117 . Updated 17 years, 3 months ago

I have looked everywhere for a solution so I thought I should probably ask about it. My laptop is connecting to my Home network wirelessly. I have the internet working through the browser, however applications wont connect. My AVG 8 cannot connect to the update server to update, Steam cannot connect, also the world of warcraft client cannot connect.

I thought this could be a firewall issue and I’ve turned off Windows Firewall to try and see if that was causing a conflict however that wasn’t it.

MSN will work however, UAC is turned off, I can browse the internet fine. It has a dynamic IP address, like my desktop. My desktop has no issues with any connections, all services run fine.

I’m using Vista Home- Premium on both machines.
Is there some underlying security feature running on my Laptop? It is with the latest updates just like my desktop.

Any help would be appreciated thanks!
