VLAN intercommunication with SSL

We need to set up communication between two vlans. This would be our default vlan and another vlan with public IP addresses with our server. If we allow traffic to go freely through each other, well ya know security issue. I have heard of possible ssl connection, but no idea how. Any ideas?
