hello: I need a VNC app that will have server as OS X tiger, at a city some miles away (the “customer”). The client (offering our “service”) will be here at home (small city 60 mi. away from the VNC server) on an XPsp2Pro, fast (t1 speed) dsl, ppoe, home routed c/s network with NAT.
What are the issues I need to consider? These are some of the things I have already encountered:
-what steps do I need to take to resolve IP addressing between VNC client & server?
-will our home routed network interfere?
-what VNC flavor will be the most trouble-free? The user is moderately tech-savvy, but her work is why the connection is there, she does not have the time to dink around with the VNC, that’s my job to set it up right & let her get her (very billable) work done. I’ve already tried & failed to set up AjaxVNC (privacy complications on this new flavor). It looks like Chicken of the VNC is for a mac VNC client, don’t we need a VNC server on the Mac? What about Ultra or Real VNC? What about Vine server on the Mac – how has it worked with other viewers?
Does OS X.4 need any VNC 3rd-party? If not, where might I find instructions to set it up on the customer’s Mac? What VNC for that wXP will work best for that OSX?
Doesn’t XPpro have builtin remote access? How might I set that up for accessing that mac (please steer me to website & I will read).
