VOIP Cabling

Hello I am about to install VOIP in one of our offices my question is the internet connection comes in at the back of the building would it be wise to run coax threw the building to the server room or would it be ok to install the modem at the point of entry and run cat5 or cat6 threw the building to the server room? Will either make a difference or one better then the other ?
