Here’s the issue…
I have VPN softare all set up using SoftRemote 8.0 and Linksys BEFSX41 Router.
I can dial in and get connected (pinging internal network, not a problem). I can map the drive that I want to map. 15-20 seconds later, the drive is inaccessible. Everytime I try and access it after this time frame, I get error message that the drive no longer exists. Before the 15-20 seconds is up, I can copy files to the drive and manipulate files how I want. Works great. After 15-20 seconds, no access to the drive at all. I still am able to ping the internal addresses without a problem…even after the drive is not accessible.
I am mapping the drive using the internal IP address, then the share (i.e. \\192.168.1.200\x). I am also pinging using the internal IP address. There is no WINS server, but I did import an LMHOSTS file that gives that IP address a name, no change at all.
I get this same error no matter how many systems I try the VPN software on. I’ve used it on Win2K, Win98, and WinME.
Current Setup :
*Peer to peer network – TCP/IP being used everywhere. Static IP address for the Linksys VPN Endpoint\Router and the system where the mapped drive is located.
*One end of the WAN is a dial-up, the other is a DSL w/VPN router.
*No servers, NT, 2K, or XP systems present anywhere.
*Dial up systems are Win98.
*System where mapped drive is located is WinME.
