VPN – Static / Dynamic

by rowdysh . Updated 22 years ago

Hi there,

I am completey stumped.

I have configured a VPN using RRAS on Windows 2000 Server. The RRAS server provides a DHCP address to the connecting client. The VPN is accessed through a static IP address.

Once the person logs in they then have access to 2 different internal ranges through the creation of a static route: 192.168.1.0 range and a 192.168.0.0 range.

Here’s whats troubling me:

I have tested this with dial-up modem, and from a permanent public IP address with no problems ie, I can access both ranges through the use of static routing in RRAS as well. However on my cable internet at home which has a dynamic IP I can only connect to the 192.168.1.0 range, and the other range simply times out. The only other thing I can think of is at home I also have RRAS setup on Windows 2003 for Internet sharing and also assigning IP address to my machines.

Any ideas? I don’t think it’s operating system specific for the client as I’ve successfuly connected via XP Pro and also Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition.

It’s got me stumped!

Let me know If I haven’t explained something clearly enough.

Thankyou,

Rohan
