W2K DNS and Firewall problems

by ather_islam . Updated 24 years, 11 months ago

Hi there,

I am a relative newcomer to W2K and DNS. The company I work for is based in South Africa and is part of a large global WAN. We have recently implemented a DNS server as a secondary to our primary DNS server based in Europe.

The nameresolution is working fine. However I have encountered a problem with clients browsing the internet. Previously each browser had the internal IP address of our Firewall entered as the proxy server. The name resolution was being done by DNS servers at our ISP.

Since implementing our own DNS server I have had problems with internet access. If I remove the proxy settings from IE we are able to access intranet sites, but not internet sites. With the proxy settings entered we can browse the internet but cannot resolve intranet addresses.

I am sure there is a simple solution to this and would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks in advance

Ather
