W2K3 Server Install Problems

by bobgoodman . Updated 18 years, 9 months ago

I am installing a new W2K3 server and 7 new client PCs (running XP Pro) in a small company. I’ve gone through the install wizards to set the server up as the domain controller and installed DHCP, DNS, AD, File Server. I’ve given manual IP configs to both of the servers NICs and populated the AD with a list of users/passwords. I have no trouble logging onto the server locally and can connect a client to the server and use a server admin profile login to get to the server. However, I cannot login to the server from that same client using one of the general “user” profiles — I get a “domain not available” error. I’ve also discovered that I cannot ping the server by domain name, only by IP address. Am wondering if I have a DHCP/DNS problem and/or a user profile problem. I would really appreciate some of your great insights! Thanks.
