W7, why loosing Local Area Connection?

Windows 7, cable LAN Network 4 connected directly into desktop.
Sometimes upon booting, sometimes after long pause or “sleep mode”, I loose the Local Area Connection. I used to have a wireless connection but removed the card and it still does it. Any ideas?
