Web Editor / Server Suggestions
This is my dilemma…
I am trying to use a new web server over IISv5.1 (XP Pro SP2) for my (personal) website. It works well and is simple, but does not handle FrontPage extensions. My web pages use a lot of the frames and buttons I made in FrontPage. I do some research and find out FrontPage is discontinued. So I can not expect any updates. Time to move on from FrontPage.
So I started looking for something since nothing likes FrontPage extensions anymore, which removes my use of counters and frames. I tried some simple ASP counters, but IIS not like them. I tried Abyss FREE web server, but it does not like FrontPage frames, buttons, etc. I keep finding one thing that does not like the other.
This is what I am looking for and I hope you can assist me. I am sure some web developer type people have some good suggestions for me. 🙂 The reason I ask such questions is because of the amount of people who know this stuff already, and may help me in saving hours of research and needless trial and error.
I am looking for a new web server and web editor that will work together. Needs to be FREE (of course allowing donations like Spybot and Firefox) and fully functional (not any of this BASIC and pay $40 for Pro) and is still being updated (as in, still an active program and not one where the last update was 2001). Following me? Excellent!
I need:
– Web server that handles current web technologies, Java and ASP.NET, and can use classic (as they call it) ASP. I would like to be able to use very simple ASP code to do web page counters and a guest book. That simple.
– Web server should be an easy to use, downloadable GUI, like Xserver or Abyss.
– WYSIWYG web editor, like FrontPage, that is as similar as possible functions as FrontPage, and will allow me to do frames and animated buttons.
– People using Internet Explorer and Firefox should then be able to use my site again and see working frames and counters, as they once did with pages made using FrontPage 2003 running on IIS.
I just have not been able to find the right combo easily on my own.
