First, let me say I am very new to the DNS, AD type world (so I am sorry for asking easy question). I have a network complete with Server 2003 (Domain Controller) and several other XP/Win2000 clients.
I have a network setup running through a Linksys Router (using DHCP). After I installed the Server I created a domain. If one of the XP workstations are in the workgroup I can ping the server fine using the Netbios Name. However, when I join the domain the workstation takes a *long* time to get to the login screen. After that, I type the login and it takes a very long time (up to 3 – 4 minutes) to actually log into the domain (but eventually it will). When I try to ping the server name I get back a 204.x.x.x address. NSLookup and it is somewhere outside my local network.
I am assuming this is the reason it take a long time to validate my credentials when I log in. Has anyone seen this? I am looking at DNS as a possible culprit but am not really fluent with that (any possible places that have good information on that)?
