My company uses a database software that runs on MSQL Server 2000. We intend purchasing and setting up a server for this purpose such that a maximum of 5 users assess the Database at the same time. Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003, Premium edition I read comes with SQL Server 2000, included with 5 user CALs.
Does these 5 user CAL?s apply to both the Operating system and the SQL 2000?
In other words does the purchase of MS Windows SBS 2003, mean that these five users can user both the operating and MS SQL Database or I will need to purchase 5 separate SQL USER CAL?s before they can do so?
I am getting confused because from Microsoft?s website under ?How to Buy SQL Server? http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy/serverpluscal.asp
Server plus user client access license (CAL) licensing requires that a separate Server license (for either SQL Server 2000 Standard or Enterprise Edition) for each server on which the software is installed, plus a user CAL for each user accessing the server.
Any clarification from experts in techrepublic.
