What can I do to prepare myself to enter the IT industry?

A little bit about me: I’m a Coast Guard Officer who’s been in the military for almost 2 years. I’m stationed at a Sector and run the Enforcement Branch here. I joined the military because it had always been a dream of mine to serve. Well, I’m fulfilling that dream right now and will keep doing so for the next 3 years (Length of my contract). Everything is good but I know that I can’t make this a career. Moving all the time is going to take a toll on my fiancee and myself and I don’t wish to do a full career in the Coast Guard.

I have 3 years left w/the Coast Guard and I’m looking into getting back into IT after my get out date.

I’ve got my BS in Comp Info Science and I did a few years of IT prior to entering the service. My plan is to get my Masters in Info Science once I’m out and work part time while I get the Masters…I?ve got the GI Bill which will pay for my entire degree and give me $ for housing.

My question is what could I be doing in the next 3 years to make myself more attractive to companies looking to hire a full/part-time network admin, security, company computer guy once I?m out of the Coast Guard?

In your opinion what’s the demand like now for IT guys? 3-5 Years from now?

Knowing what you know about the industry what would you do in my position?

What questions should I be asking that I’m not asking?

Anything else you can add?

Thanks to all those who give me some guidance.
