What does the “Last Known Good ” profile really do?

I have been patching systems for the last week getting ready for an audit scan. I use Retina because that’s what the IA scanners will use. I have patched this one system that had over 20 High vulnerabilities almost 20 Mediums and over 110 Low vulnerabilities. I patched it up having to manually replace some dll’s because the patch indicated a newer update had taken care of the problem. I rebooted rescanned and was happy to see only 20 to 30 Lows with no Highs or Mediums. At the end of the day I performed a net scan just to check before the Audit team arrived and this system had gone back to over 20 High vulnerabilities almost 20 Mediums and over 110 Low vulnerabilities. I questioned the very knowledgeable user, a developer\programmer, if he had changed anything, he just laughed and said, “no.”

HELP!!!
