What happen to my pc drivers E: and D:?

I place the windows xp on drive E: I was attenting to run the repair option on my win ex, since the pc was acting fanny, very slow, so I open the E: drive palce the cd, I got a window saying “it couldn’t read the cd”, samething with drive D:, after that my win xp cd is in the drive and I can open it, and I can find the files to reinstall it, the drives are not where to be seeing, when I go to explore it only shows the floppy drive and c: drive…So, in light of all thiese! can you tell me what’s going on? and what to do to solve it.
