We currently have about 40 users and a Lynux machine acting as a Gateway/NAT/Firewall server to the internet. Our Internet connection to the internet is an always on ASDSL connection to the internet. We have an ISP hosting our Internet Site and Email accounts.
What we plan:
We plan on setting up an Internet server and Email server on site. Since our web site is going to offer legal documents for review by our clients (they will logon with a name and password to the restricted (documents) areaon the web site) Which means that I’ll have to open up ports on the firewall for internet users to be able to connect to the webserver.
I dont know how to use a Lynux mahcine the guy who set it up has left me with this machine and I dont know how to use it. However, I can learn how to use it.
One more thing, the one who set up the internet connection thru the Lynux machine has left the company but he might be intrested in getting into our computer system (he is angry with us).
Here is my question:
Should I learn how to use Lynux so I can configure it myself and make sure that I do what I can to block unwanted people?
Or:
Should I rather purchace a Cisco router that has Firewall software with it?
Which one is easier to teach myself Cisco or Lynux?
Which one is more secure? Cisco or Lynux?
Please give answers with experience and/or a resource I can look up.
If the answers will good I will make the point values higher.
