What solutions are available to connect to a Ubuntu 10.10 server?

I have Ubuntu server 10.10 installed and ready to go. The company has several other stations(all will be configured with the client Ubuntu 10.1- desktop) and I want users to connect to the server to share files, access files, etc. How can I accomplish this? I questioned using a VPN but I don’t know what options to explore.
