What switch(es) would you recommend for a 500 gaming event/LAN Party?

I am looking to set up a gigabit network for 500 people. This equipment will be primarily used for the hosting of LAN Parties, so speed and reliability are the most important features I am looking for.

I have little experience with networking on this scale and my budget is $8000.
