whats up with ie 5.0 !?!?!

I have a computer on a network that whenever you start ie 5.0 the com ports and the printer ports are being used for some odd reason causing me not to be able to print. It comes up with an error message “the port is in use by another program. closesome applications and try agian” interesting huh!
