What’s your opinion of VPN…

What’s your opinion of using VPN for connecting two remote offices together? Would you say it’s not a reliable solution? Would you say it’s okay, fairly good? Or would you say it’s just as good as a private line, Frame-relay service?

Both remote offices will be connected to the Internet at T1 speeds. Both will be using the Sonicwall SOHO Firewall and VPN solution.

What has been your experience with using VPN? Is there a lot of packet drops? Would VPN be suitable for a telnet type of application (host-based type of application) where a connection can’t be disrupted or you’ll be dropped and quite possibly loose data?
