Where is my network neighborhood?

by nateh . Updated 22 years, 9 months ago

This is a hair-pulling situation.

Configuration: Win2000 Server. Set up in Workgroup environment. It is configured with DHCP and DNS server, as well as Remote Access. Only one NIC card on this machine. The rest of the network is made up of WinXP Pro machines.

People working remotely, use VPN to dial in to the server. I have not been able to determine for sure, but it seems when someone connects with VPN, the internal folks lose the ability to browse network neighborhood. They get the error that the local network is not available and that they do not have permissions to it.

This seems to be completely random, because some people do see it, others don’t.

It seems like all this started when I set up the VPN on the server, but I have not been able to confirm this because the users will not allow me to disable the VPN to test.

Anyway, I have read on other user groups aboout this type of problem, but have never been able to find a solution.

So I am turning to you for this.

HELP please!!

thanks

Nate
