Hello all, I am at a point in my life where I would love to have some direction from colleagues.
I just hit 30, married with 1 child and 1 on the way. I now have a job as a Network Admin in a win2k3 server environment with a lot of ability to expand things budget wise.
I have just aquired a training budget and have found a company (New Horizons) that will train me to get a MCSA. I also see a company called Gatlin Educational services that will do the same thing, but it seems cheaper. I have no certs right now, but I do have a Bachleor’s in CIS/IT Programming and a Masters degree in Business Admin/Management Emphasis. Which cert should I go for? If I go with New Horizons, it will exhaust my entire budget for one cert, plus some out of my pocket. If I go with Gatlin, I can do everything online, and not have to leave home for training, but I worry about online training sometimes.
Without training in any way, and starting cold on any network experience, I have become very competent with this environment, (as I am the only one at this company that can do this, so I MUST research to get things running) and feel like if I have the right training materials, I may be able to train myself. The problem is, I need the right material.
Any suggestions are welcome, as I will analyze every response.
