Why does OLD CD-Burner encode FASTER than new DVD-Burner?

by natelanman . Updated 18 years, 11 months ago

Hi Everyone,
I purchased an internal HP DVD-Writer 840i a few months ago, installed it, and have been using it to make DVD backups of my music files (70gbs and growing!). For some odd reason, the burner seems to be slow despite tooting DVD burn rates@16x, and CD-write speed@40x. In fact, when using iTunes to encode, with my CD-Burner purchased with the system in 2004, I can get transfer rates of 10.6mb’s (I do not remember the byte size) versus 3.6mb’s with the new DVD-burner. The DVD-burner has been a slight let down from the get go as the installation disc it came with did not load properly with my system. Luckily, the computer recognized it and I was able to make the back up copies to DVD. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Nate
