Why don’t changes to about:config stay changed?

iMesh Search got on my computer and set itself up on everything. I’ve cleared add-ons and cookies. iMesh has replaced my homepage. I took it off on Explorer and Mozilla Foxfire, but it kept returning. I am using Windows XP. So I made the changes in about:config and exited the page. It still comes back. What next?
