Why is Internet gateway disabled and no access network group ?

Just re-installed XP from purchased IBM CD onto Dell Inspiron 6000. Internet Gateway is disabled and pc has no access to home network group (NAS disks, etc.). All other stations ok. Please point me in the right direction to fix.
