will it affect speed

I have Intel P-111 450 Mhz processor,64 MBRAM,8.4 Gb seagate hdd,i440 ZX (Azza)motherboard having Award Modular BIOS,AT cabinet,52X CDDROm drive with Windows 98 Second edition installed.
now I want to install one more HDD of 40 Gb .
Can u tell me will the hard disk of such a high capacity affect (slow down) the processing speed of my system.and moreover,would it be compatible with my system.
