Win 98 notebook log on to Win2k domain

I want to set a win98 notebook to connect to win2k domain server. under the network neighbourhood, i have set the dns, wins, gateway and even IP settings. I have tried lmhosts and even dns suffix settings. I can connect to the Internet using the domain network. I can ping to the domain controller by the domain controller name and IP address. But, i cannot ping to the domain name e.g. ad.xxx.com.sg. Please help
