Win NT4 & COM port conflict

I have a laptop with NT4.0 installed and I’m trying to get a Palm Pilot installed to syncronize with the laptop.

The laptop has a built-in modem that uses COM port 1, and the connector to the Palm also uses COM port 1. Try as I might I can’t getthe laptop to install and recognise another port, which means either the modem or the Palm link is inoperable.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
