I have just purchased 4 Dell Vostro 200’s and put XP Pro SP3 on them. I have a Win2000 domain and 2 Netgear ReadyNAS 1100’s. The Dell workstations connect to Win2K server shares, the internet and shared printers 100% – No problems.
The issue is -the connection to the NAS boxes using CIFS times out after a short period of time and you cannot access those shares. Systems hang and come back device at //192.168.16.113/sharename is not available.
All other LAN resources are working properly except the connections to the NAS devices. I have replaced the NIC’s in the Dell’s. Same issue.
If you reboot the Dells they work for about an hour then the connection problems come back.
All other workstations on the LAN are whitebox clones with Win 2000 SP4 and they all work perfectly. I am going to take a laptop with XP on it and attach to LAN to see if the issue is with the Dells or XP OS.
Has anyone seen this issue before it is driving me nuts. Please reply here or email me at ekosanke@hlaw.us I have to resolve this somehow. I did enable ftp on the NAS boxes and I don’t have the issue with the FTP connections but I need to use CIFS. Any help would be much appreciated.
