Win xp driver problem

by wbry . Updated 22 years, 9 months ago

How can I keep XP home edition from attempting to load a bad driver then giving me an error saying that loading the driver will make the system unstable? I attempted to load the HP drivers for a CDRom RW. When I booted I got the above message. I uninstalled the software. However, each time I boot xp still thinks it needs to load the EasyCD creator driver(from hP). I located the driver and deleted it from System32\drivers, but that has not really helped. I looked in ini files and cant find any reference to the driver I deleted. How can get xp to not try loading the wrong driver(cdralw2k.sys) BTW I tried to get an up dated driver, but can’t — I have to buy a new more up to date version to the tune of 69.95. I don’t need it and don’t want it. Thanks for any help you can give!!!!

PS. I have deleted the CD and reinstalled it, but it stills attempts to install the old driver.
