my sys. at the office started running slower and slower(Win XP Pro OS on Win 2003 server network). Went in to drive analysis and discovered that the drive was approx. 90% fragmented. I started Defrag and stopped by our so called self taught IT professional to let him know that I discovered why my sys. was running so slow and that I had fired up defrag. Now here is the real Kicker, he stated that using defrag on an xp sys. messes it up to the point that it may not boot, and also stated that there was a white paper on tech republic stating that fact. I would like to know if this is true and where I can find the white paper he is referring to, or is he just a boob blowing smoke to cover his own backside.
I have been running Win XP Pro at home on a 3 sys. network for several years now with no problems using Defrag. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
