I have a problem accessing a Windows 98 PC from a Windows 2003 Active Directory Domain. One of our sites has a windows 98 PC with call collection software. We extract that information from the remote PC in our home office, but lately, we haven’t been able to connect to the PC. This happens intermittently, as we were able to get this connection for several weeks, then it stopped working again. We can access the Win98 PC remotely using VNC, but when we try to browse in network neighborhood or connect to the share, we just receive a logon prompt that doesn’t connect. The Win98 PC does have Active Directory Services for Windows 98 installed. We have an additional WINS server on our domain at the remote location and if we restart that server, the problem disappears. But, once the WINS server is fully rebooted and back online, the connection fails again. And if we VNC into that Win98 PC, we can connect to every server EXCEPT the WINS. Does anyone have any idea why this would be happening and how can we fix the problem?
