Win98SE: View defaults in Exploring

My “View” defaults seem to be set to “Large Icon”. I want ‘Details”. How can I set this? Sometimes when I set to “Details” it will return that particular folder to this when I close and reopen. At other times it will revert to “Large Icon”. Anyhelp will be appreciated.
