window 2000 delays

we are in the process of migrating to windows 2000 from netware 4.11. We are using both ip and ipx. The question is why does windows 2000 client takes several minutes to find a network connection and once it does it takes over 2 minutes (blue screen) after logging in to load the desktop. What is causing this and how can I shorten these delays
