Windows 200 Pro is slow over network

I replaced a NT4 Client that was attached to a Win NT4 Server with Win 2000 Pro Client attaching to the same NT4 Server in the same way and place. Running programs over the network I find an update that took one-half second with NT4 client now takes 4.5 seconds.
I suspect packet size or some TCP/IP configuration with w2k.
