windows 2000 server dhcp

Hi guys I’m new to all of this. Alright, well I installed and set up a windows 2000 server. fine but now I want to use it as a dhcp and dns server…. I installed the dhcp service through windows components I set up a scope with exclusions however, when I try to get an ip address it wont work anyone can help here?
