Windows 2000 / XP “DSL Buffer Server”

by normjr . Updated 19 years, 3 months ago

Hi all!

This is my first post in here.

Can and If so how does one set up the operating system(s) for the following?

I want to put what I call a “Buffer server” between my DSL modem and home network.

Here is what I am thinking of.

1. DSL modem connects to “NIC-1” in “server”.
2. Network hub / switch connects to “Nic-2” in “server”.
3. “Work Stations” connect to switch / hub and access the web through the “Buffer Server.

This “Server” acts as a firewall and virus-scanning machine for all incoming traffic from the internet. This also acts as a “Download receiver” for all downloads from the net.

Thanks in advance
Norm
