Windows 7 pro 64 cd/dvd problem

Have windows 7 pro loaded on a HP Pavilion Elite.
All works well EXCEPT all cds including external USB.
Device manager reports a yellow “!” on all three cd devices. and reports;
“a driver for this device has become disabled” “An alternative device….”

What is the problem? I installed Windows 7 thru the USB cd but now it exibits the same error.
Can you help??
