Windows 95 Explorer problem

When I open Windows 95 Explorer. The Directories and Folders appear on the left as usual. If I try to view the contents of the folder , which normally appears on the right, it appears empty, however if I check the properties of the folder it appears normal with No. of files and size.
I have a 97.7 MG Ram,6 Gig HD. All other applications apear to be working fine.
