Windows 98 and wireless router problems

i am trying to set up a wireless router with an ATT Yahoo DSL connection. the wired computer is running Windows 98. the internet works fine without the netgear router. As soon as i connect the netgear router, the main computer no longer receives internet. i’ve checked the internet connections and everything is plugged in correctly. is there some problem with windows 98, DSL, and netgear routers?
