Windows 98 SE Lockup?

Is it possible that windows 98 se can cause my system to lock up while in any program anytime? I can’t even do Ctrl-Alt-Del. Total freeze. Shut off and power back on is what I have to do. It can happen 10min or 1 hour later. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
